“We climbed possibly the world’s biggest outdoor staircase for an hour, our jelly legs teetering on the brink of collapse, to find one of the most beautiful places on earth, high above Mount Cook Village in New Zealand. Two falcons waited for us on fence posts, then took flight and chased each other around the mountainside, swooping down and skimming the bright red tarns, diving up and around us, flashing past and sending out piercing screeches from beside the clouds…”
